We took a walk last Sunday morning August 30, 2015 on the Peninsula. That’s Newport Harbour in the background. It was a lovely quiet day for a walk and parking was easy. I think everyone was still at home having breakfast before their day at the beach. Ha ha, we just went for a chocolate croissant at C’est Si Bon. Did I ever tell you that I like the almond croissants better ? That is because I can have more of them when I share. I only get tiny slivers of edge crust when Mum is having a chocolate croissant.
This spot on the Peninsula is on Edgewater, near Island Avenue (Island Avenue being where the Library is). Up a little way is a very nice tree and a lovely grassy spot to watch sail boat races from. Since my pegs became so creaky, I am all about shady grassy spots !
We took a nice walk at Fashion Island in Newport Beach today and Mum lifted me up onto the boxes by the Christmas Tree for my official Christmas Portrait. I wore my jingle bell collar and with a recent bath I think I looked quite smart. I was happy to get down and continue my walk though, it was a little high up there ! Long ago and far away when I was a wee pup just 12 weeks old, I had my picture taken here too.
This year, 2014 was also my cousin Sam’s first Christmas. Here we are together under the tree.
Ahoy Mates ! I do like mucking around boats and the docks and shoreline. This isn’t my dinghy, but I wish I had one like it, only I would choose a lapstrake dinghy with a little electric motor. I don’t think staff can row fast enough to keep up with the ducks and out of the way of the Harbour Patrol !
I took staff for a nice hike above Laguna Beach today, a few days after Christmas. It wasn’t as green as hoped, but it was a beeeeeyooootiful day ! Also lots of great scents and plenty of snake holes. I went to rattlesnake skool before so staff wasn’t too worried. We like to walk around (since I am 12, its more of a mosie about than a hike) at Top of the World. We go in by the Del Mar Street side out of habit. Some times there are goats up there, but there isn’t enough grass yet to need fire prevention. Just some cactus.
After we finished our walk we went into town since it was early and parking was easy. What do you think the first stop was ? You know staff likes her pastries . . . . SO we went to Scandia Bakery on Forrest Avenue. Today it was Bearclaws because even though they have lots of delightful things, they do make a very nice bearclaw and we hadn’t had any for a while. I had to remind staff to get me MY OWN PLEASE !
Winslow has always liked walking and exploring along the bluffs above Crystal Cove. The beach is a preserve so we don’t go down there as we might confuse the sealife. But the cliffs are rad ! Except when we see a rattle snake. But we didn’t see any today.
There are many good smells on the wind.
Pals, I hope you are all wearing your seat belts and harnesses when you are riding in the car or truck ! Its the safest for you and can save the life of the driver and other passengers too. We are the most precious cargo and must arrive safely ! We use the Four Paws Safety Support Harness, which is highly rated. On to the hunt !
Next up we were in the mood for some Latin Asian Grub. So where else but the Dos Chinos Truck . Jason and Hop make such good burritos that Winslow is sure that they must have spaniels that do taste tests for them.
Winslow is quite the sea food affectionado, so our first stop at the So Co Collection Farmers Market on Saturday was the Lobsta Truck. It was too hot to eat (we are both on diets so this is admittedly a new concept for us) so we just took pictures. But the menu was tempting to the extreme.
Winslow loves cheese, so a visit to the cheese shoppe at the So Co Collection was de rigueur ! Winslow loved the smells but we kept clear of the counter so as not to bother paying customers. We were just collecting scents. By the way, may we recommend our new favorite cheese, Colliers Powerful Welsh Cheddar Alas, its up to you to find someplace that sells it. We cannot risk our source being out of stock. (Again. . . are you listening Mr. K)
On the way home from Cayucos we stopped for a break at Latetia Winery . If you are ever on the road this is a nice stop for wine tasting and a quick game of bocce. I think bocce shouldn’t be played quickly however. If you are northbound it is a good stop for wine for your hosts. If you are southbound it is good to savor the last relaxation before the traffic to come.
